The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
